Reflection on ICT as a communicative tool

ICT as a communicative tool

Communication tool are the device that helps people to communicate easily. It can be happen between two or more person through the tools like we-chat, face-book, video conference and Gmail etc. This tool helps people to communicate and share their thoughts even if they are not face to face or together. Some tools also help to see each other face and gives a feeling like talking face to face in a real situation. This tool really helps in connecting people from different places.

There are two types of communication:

1. Synchronous: it is a real time communication people like face to face or phone communication. For example, we use to phone call or video call through our mobile to friends or to families and we communicate or talk each other. So that can be called as synchronous or real time communication. From education side its mainly use for instructional activities that required higher degree of interaction and helps in solving urgent problems or issues.

2. Asynchronous: it is a service or application that does not require a constant bit rate or not requiring people communicating to be logged on the internet at same time. It can be like transferring a files, email or phone call at any time with their comfortable. In education side this types of communication is appropriate for activities that required more time thinking before responding. Here, blog can be best example.

Though there are many advantages of using above two types communication but there is also some advantages. First, these types of communication are mostly occurred in the education fields and among many communicators. So disadvantages are where slow computer users face difficulties in following up and make quick comments for discussion. Again because of many discussion slides leads to slow connection and lose focused and interest in discussion.

Whereas in asynchronous communication is mostly of uploading and posting files on forums or blogs. So it is additional tasks for teachers since they have to post the task plus also need the check the student's tasks later. Asynchronous is flexible communication because it’s on individual hands when to post their task. So it's naturally discouraging the learner's participation and frequency.

Since schools and institutions are closed due to corona virus our module tutor taught lesson through video conference with us. Through this video conference we can able communicate like real classroom teaching. To me it was first experience that i have never came across before. Through this conference we can able to share our doubts, points and opinions same like face to face conversation. so i felt that this tool is very important for teaching and learning when teacher and students are not able seat in the contact classroom.
